Mayor's Updates

Mayor’s Updates are intended to keep residents connected to what’s happening around Cherokee Ridge, including Town activities, ongoing projects, and priorities for the future. Official Town actions, notices, agendas, minutes, ordinances, and resolutions will continue to be published through the Town’s official channels.

One of the things I've come to appreciate as Mayor is just how much work happens behind the scenes to keep our Town moving forward. While the Council and Planning Commission have been making steady progress on a number of initiatives, much of that work isn't always visible to residents. I'd like to change that.
That's one reason we've recently refreshed the Town website, introduced a new community logo, and launched an email notification service. We've already had more than 130 residents and property owners sign up, and I encourage everyone to subscribe. I'll also use these Mayor's Updates to share a more personal perspective on what we're working on and why it matters.

A few highlights from our October 12 meetings:
Planning and Zoning: The Planning Commission presented its recommendations for updating the Town's Zoning Ordinance. Importantly, the Commission listened to feedback from residents and removed the proposed minimum home-size requirements while retaining our existing zoning district names. Other improvements, including new provisions for agricultural uses, dumpster screening, and special-use approvals, remain in the proposal. The Council has scheduled a public hearing for December 14, providing another opportunity for residents to share their thoughts.
Community Events: The Council approved a resolution establishing a new Community Events Advisory Committee. This volunteer committee will help identify, plan, and coordinate activities that bring our community together. I'm particularly excited about creating more opportunities for residents to get involved in shaping the future of Cherokee Ridge. We'll share a separate announcement soon inviting volunteers to participate.
Resident Safety: We also heard concerns about dead and potentially dangerous trees on vacant properties, including damage from recent storms. The Council recognizes the seriousness of these concerns. While the Town currently lacks an ordinance authorizing it to intervene in these private-property situations, public safety remains a top priority. We appreciate residents bringing these issues forward and giving us the opportunity to listen.
Town Operations: The Council also authorized a Town purchasing card for routine expenses and approved a budget continuing resolution. These are fairly routine administrative matters, but they're part of keeping our small Town government operating efficiently and responsibly.

My goal is simple: a Town government that communicates openly, listens carefully, and makes thoughtful decisions about our community's future.

Cherokee Ridge is a special place, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor. I look forward to keeping the conversation going.
